Poll: Should the Browns sign Aldon Smith?

A few weeks ago I wrote about how the Cleveland Browns should say their goodbyes to wide receiver, Josh Gordon. So, for me to sit here and promote the signing of Aldon Smith would be straight-up hypocritical. Both individuals are complete dumpster fires.

More from Dawg Pound Daily

Smith was recently released by the San Francisco 49ers on suspicion of hit-and-run, while under the influence. Like Gordon, this isn’t the first time Smith has been in trouble. In the last two seasons, he’s missed 14 games due to either rehab (personal issues) or violating NFL rules.

He’s been charged with accounts of illegal possession of an assault weapon, DUI suspicion, possession of marijuana, once detained at an airport for claiming he had a bomb, and now his latest offense.

Crazy stuff.

Again, I’m not going to sit here and promote the signing of Smith to the Browns because let’s face it, this is the Browns. They have enough problems as it is. It would be like the couple who isn’t getting along, deciding to have another child to try and fix their problems. But what we do know, is that Smith is clearly a difference maker.

In his first two seasons, he averaged almost 17 sacks a season, while collecting a first-team All-Pro selection and a team MVP award. His physical specimen is imposing with a simple glance, and his length and speed off the edge is as good as anyone in the game.

At this point, a suspension has yet to be announced, but if everything proves to stand, who knows how long it would be. After serving nine games last season, I would expect the punishment to be as severe if not the entire season because of his second offense.

If his current issue doesn’t hold ground and the NFL has no real right to suspend Smith, then he would be huge plus to this defense, especially after Barkevious Mingo‘s injury.

So, what do you guys think? Is it worth adding Smith to the roster on a limited deal, and the worse case scenario releasing him if he serves a prolonged suspension? Tell me what you think in the comments, and poll below.
