The Cleveland Browns need cornerback help and they are already looking. In an effort to improve, they hosted two-time Pro Bowler Vontae Davis on Friday

Last season the Cleveland Browns went out and signed veteran cornerback Jason McCourty after releasing Joe Haden — their own veteran starter. McCourty was released by the Tennessee Titans, and came in on the cheap for his skill level and experience.

The Browns still weren’t as good as they would like to be in pass defense, and they know it. Cleveland is already looking to improve in that area and on Friday they visited with free agent Vontae Davis according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com.

Davis was originally a first-round pick of the Miami Dolphins back in 2009 out of Illinois. He played three seasons in Miami before being traded to the Indianapolis Colts ahead of the 2012 season. Things ended bad as the talented corner suffered a groin injury that prematurely ended his final season with the Colts.

The injury was a lingering one and when the team left him home midway through the season, he started to express his frustration, and was then cut in November — which is the reason he can visit teams now whereas other free agents must wait for the new league year.

Davis has made two Pro Bowls — one in 2014 and another in 2015. In nine NFL seasons, the 6-foot, 205-pound defensive back has 393 tackles, 22 interceptions and an impressive 97 career pass defenses. He will be 30-years old this season, but even so will likely demand a lot of money. While the Browns have the cash to go after him, they did release Haden for salary reasons.

The Browns finished next to last in pass defense a year ago, so someone like Davis could help. There’s no indication he’s set to sign though and he could take more visits and has also already spent time with the Buffalo Bills.
