The New York Jets are reportedly all in on Kirk Cousins, so if the Cleveland Browns are interested, they will have some competition

There’s really no telling what the Cleveland Browns are going to do this offseason with their quarterback situation. They do own the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, but unlike last season when we all knew Myles Garrett was coming to town, this season is a mystery.

Perhaps the team is already zeroed in on a quarterback and they’re ready to turn the keys over. Or maybe, they’re hoping to land a veteran and use that top pick on someone like Penn State running back Saquon Barkley.

One veteran possibility who keeps getting mentioned is Kirk Cousins, the Washington Redskins starter the past three seasons who is set to hit the open market. While the Browns themselves aren’t letting any plans to pursue him leak, fans and media members have connected the dots.

Cleveland not only has a need, but they also have the money. If they are indeed eyeing him, they better be ready to spend that cash because the bidding war is beginning.

According to Rich Cimini of ESPN, the New York Jets are ready to spend big time to get Cousins in town:

"“The game plan: It’s simple: Get Cousins. The Jets want him badly, and sources say they’re willing to pay whatever it takes — unless the Washington Redskins decide to tag him for a third time (unlikely). Money aside, the Jets hope to convince him he’ll have a chance to win in New York.” — Cimini"

The key here is the big “if” referring to a franchise tag. The Redskins could throw a wrench in everyone’s plans and tag and trade Cousins. That’s a risky move because some teams may just elect to move on and try their hand in the draft and Washington could be on the hook for some serious money.

Next: Browns should make a play for Marcus Peters

In the end, Cousins should hit the open market and if Cleveland wants in, they better be ready to give him a record-breaking contract.
