Cleveland Browns News: Joe Thomas says Austin Corbett is a guard
By Dan Justik
The Daily Dawg Tags brings you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, including Joe Thomas saying that Austin Corbett will be a guard in the NFL.
The Cleveland Browns have yet to find their replacement at left tackle since Joe Thomas retired in March. The belief was that second-round pick Austin Corbett would be in the competition to take over the left tackle job.
However, Thomas does not believe that Corbett will be playing tackle for the Browns. With training camp practices beginning on Thursday, the thought was that Corbett would begin competing with Shon Coleman for the left tackle job.
During mini-camp in the summer, Corbett did not get an extended look playing tackle. The Browns moved him around the offensive line to get a feel for which position he is best suited for.

Joe Thomas: Austin Corbett is a guard, not a tackle – Nick Shook, Around the NFL
"“I can say confidently that I don’t think Austin Corbett is going to play tackle in the NFL,” Thomas told me Tuesday. “I got to spend all of spring there watching film and practicing and coaching him up and he’s certainly a guard or a center.”"
If the Browns also decide that Corbett cannot play tackle, Cleveland may be in trouble at left tackle. Coleman struggled at right tackle, and moving him to the more important position on the line is asking for trouble.
The Browns signing Dez Bryant would be a mistake
Browns general manager John Dorsey mentioned that the Browns have discussed bringing in free agent wide receiver Dez Bryant. But Randy Gurzi believes it would be a mistake for the Cleveland to make that move.
Jeremy Maclin could be an option for the Browns
If the Browns are looking for a cheap, veteran option at wide receiver, they may be better suited to go after Jeremy Maclin instead of a player that carries the amount of baggage that Bryant does.
Cleveland Browns: No more excuses for Hue Jackson – Terry Pluto, The Plain Dealer
"But the Browns will be improved. The games should be more watchable. Their players are more experienced, and that should show up on the field. It’s up to Jackson to make that happen."
With an improved roster and no longer being the offensive coordinator, Hue Jackson will need to win games in 2018. If Jackson fails to win games with this roster, his job as Browns head coach will be in jeopardy.
