Cleveland Browns: 3 Studs and duds from Preseason Week 2
By Randy Gurzi
Dud: Offensive line depth
While the Browns got the running game going, their offensive line was still looking like a work in progress. Being fair, their first-team looked much better. Spencer Drango wasn’t standing out like he did in Week 1, and Austin Corbett looked a lot better than he did then as well. There was also Joel Bitonio at left tackle, and he looks perfectly fine there.
Once they came off the field, things got bad. Shon Coleman continues to struggle and makes you wonder why the front office and coaching staff ever even considered using him as the blindside protector. His play also shows why the team resorted to ‘Plan Z’ so quickly — which was to move Bitonio from left guard.
An early drive in the third quarter highlighted the issues the line was facing. Coleman allowed a sack on one play and undrafted free agent Desmond Harrison was called for a hold on the next — and Baker Mayfield still had to take off and scramble.
Throughout the broadcast, the announcers were questioning why the No. 1 pick was still playing despite the lack of protection. Mayfield was once again having to bounce around the pocket and find throwing lanes.
