Cleveland Browns News: Todd Haley defends Tyrod Taylor
By Dan Justik
The Daily Dawg Tags brings you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, including Todd Haley defending Tyrod Taylor’s performance.
Much of the talk around the Cleveland Browns for the past week has been the switch at starting quarterback from Tyrod Taylor to Baker Mayfield.
After starting the first three games, Taylor was never able to find a rhythm. Taylor has completed only 48.8 percent of his passes and threw two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Taylor’s struggles forced the hand of head coach Hue Jackson, and the Browns made switch to the rookie quarterback. The decision was made easier as Taylor suffered a concussion and a back injury against the Jets.

It seemed like an obvious decision to make, even if Taylor did not suffer the injuries. But there is one person close to the situation that defended Taylor’s performance.
In today’s featured article, Browns offensive coordinator Todd Haley defended Taylor, saying the quarterback did not have a chance with poor protection in front of him.

"Browns offensive coordinator Todd Haley declined to say Thursday if he was on board with the switch to Baker Mayfield, and defended Tyrod Taylor’s woeful performance against the Jets."
It is fair to say that Taylor did not have the best protection in front of him in the first three games. But Taylor also enhanced the problem by not getting the ball out quick enough, which would have helped bail out the offensive line.
Trades that the Cleveland Browns should consider
Cleveland Browns general manager John Dorsey is not afraid to make moves to improve the roster, and Shane Carter looks at some trades the Browns decision maker should consider making.
"Like their counterparts across the league, the Browns are not sure why defenders have to put themselves at added risk for injury in order to avoid landing on the quarterback when trying to bring him down to the ground."
Roughing-the-passer penalties have been a major problem early in the season. It is not a shock to see Myles Garrett rip the rule, as he was called for a roughing-the-passer penalty that the league determined should not have been called.
Denzel Ward was the missing puzzle piece for the Browns defense
The Cleveland Browns defense have played at a much higher level compared to last season, and Martin McConnell believes that the one player that is a major key in the improvement is rookie cornerback Denzel Ward.
