The Cleveland Browns unexpectedly traded running back Carlos Hyde. Could quarterback Tyrod Taylor, who is frustrated with his role, be the next to go?

On Friday, the Cleveland Browns shocked the football world when they unexpectedly sent Carlos Hyde to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Hyde was their starter all season long and the team gave no hints they were ready to move on from him.

While they did want to get Duke Johnson and Nick Chubb more carries, the coaching staff never seemed to want to do so at the expense of Hyde’s job. Heck, they didn’t even want to take Hyde off the field, which frustrated some fans who wanted to see more from Duke and Chubb.

Then suddenly, he was gone. So now, the team will have to turn to their backups at the running back position. With this move in the books, it brings up more questions about the roster, specifically the quarterback spot.

Here, the Browns have already turned to their original backup. Rookie Baker Mayfield came in for an injured Tyrod Taylor in Week 3 and didn’t give the job back.

Now healthy, Taylor is reportedly frustrated in his role. And according to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, he won’t rule out asking for a trade.

Should Taylor ask for a trade, it shouldn’t be shocking because he never denied he may want one. Earlier in the season when asked, Taylor said that was a question for his agent — which pretty much means he didn’t want to lie and say he’s fine being a backup all year.

Some teams to keep an eye on if Taylor does get moved include the San Francisco 49ers, Miami Dolphins, Arizona Cardinals, and Jacksonville Jaguars.

In San Francisco and Miami, they’re dealing with injuries to their starters. Jimmy Garoppolo is out all season for the Niners and Ryan Tannehill has seemed to be perpetually injured for Miami.

As for the Cardinals, the whole team looks awful on offense, so a new quarterback may not matter. Still, Taylor could provide some competition for Josh Rosen.

The last potential team is the one Cleveland just sent Hyde to, the Jacksonville Jaguars. Here, the team has to be close to giving up on Blake Bortles. His inconsistency is maddening and he’s coming off a pretty rough stretch.

Another option exists as Cleveland could keep Taylor all year and still get future compensation. With his contract ending after 2018, Taylor signing elsewhere could lead to a 2020 compensatory pick.

The Browns have options, and moving him could get them something back quicker while also making the player happier. It’s something to keep an eye on.
