Freddie Kitchens: Baker Mayfield’s development of ‘utmost importance’ – Pat McManamon, ESPN
"“We want all of our players to see growth, from everything to the line to the receivers to the backs and of course the quarterback,” Kitchens said. “The quarterback’s learning curve and the pictures in his head has to increase.”"
It seems extremely unlikely that Kitchens would be retained as the offensive coordinator next season, but it is great to see him understand what is his main concern as the offensive coordinator. Mayfield struggled against the Steelers and is showing signs of growing pains, but Kitchens may have some ideas to help his game progress.
Kevin Zeitler is quietly having a great season
The Cleveland Browns offensive line has been the subject of most of the blame for the offensive struggles this season, but Randy Gurzi points out that Kevin Zeitler has been one of the best guards in football this season.
"When asked about being thrust into a larger leadership role after the firing of head coach Hue Jackson and offensive coordinator Todd Haley on Monday, Mayfield had three words: “Bring it on.”"
Mayfield has already endured more drama in the first eight games of his NFL career than the Cleveland Browns would have hoped. But it seems that Mayfield has the right mentality that the firings of Hue Jackson and Haley won’t affect him.
Ryan Lindley will provide more help for Baker Mayfield
The Cleveland Browns hired former NFL quarterback Ryan Lindley to become the running backs coach as Kitchens became the offensive coordinator, and Lindley becomes another person that can help Mayfield in understanding what is needed to excel in the NFL.
