The Daily Dawg Tags bring you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, including wide receiver Jarvis Landry speaking about what he knew of the team prior to joining the Browns

One of the most talked about moves this offseason — outside of draft talk — for the Cleveland Browns was their acquisition of wide receiver Jarvis Landry. The former NFL receptions leader for the Miami Dolphins came over via trade and was given a massive contract extension after coming to Cleveland.

As is always the case with a huge contract, there were several takes on whether it was the right move or not. Looking past all that, it can be said that the Browns got what they were looking for — a wideout with solid hands that can lead their young receiving corps.

While the Browns knew what they were getting, Landry wasn’t sure about everything he would be seeing with Cleveland. And he recently spoke on that, while also expressing pride in being part of the current turnaround.

Browns notebook: Jarvis Landry wants to show Cleveland is no longer ‘little brother’ to rest of AFC North — Nate Ulrich, Beacon Journal

"Landry admitted it’s hard to understand how much the Browns have struggled throughout the expansion era from outside Cleveland.“I feel like till you hear and see and feel what it’s felt to the people that has been in it, you don’t really understand the magnitude of it,” said Landry, whom the Browns acquired in March via a trade with the Miami Dolphins. “And now being here and being a Cleveland Brown and playing inside of this division and understanding [the media’s] feelings and taking all that, and the city as well, you understand what this game means. I’m happy to be a part of it now.”"

Landry has been a strong, and vocal leader for this team and his part in the turnaround is only just beginning. He’s going to be a key recruiter for this team in the offseason. While he’s not a GM, he’s well-respected in the NFL and his positivity about what’s going on in The Land will help convince other stars to listen closer to the pitch coming from John Dorsey.

Former Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon stepping away from NFL

In some unfortunate news, former Cleveland Browns receiver Josh Gordon issued a statement early on Thursday that he would be stepping away from the NFL and Dan Justik discusses that as well as a pending suspension — which did end up coming later in the day.

Freddie Kitchens, who ‘definitely, no doubt’ wants to be a head coach, should be a candidate for the Browns’ job — Mary Kay Cabot, Cleveland.com

"“I heard the other day somebody say something about I wasn’t ready to be a head coach,’’ Kitchens said during his regular Thursday press conference. “I mean, who the hell’s ready to be a head coach?’’"

Kitchens is always great for a quote and he had another one here. He did also say he would absolutely want to be a head coach one day, and he’s on the right path with his success calling plays this season.

If you ask them, they will come. Well, at least that’s true in the case of Baker Mayfield asking the fans to show up for the Browns home finale. Martin McConnell tells us how Mayfield inspired a sell out in their last game at First Energy Stadium in 2018.
