The Daily Dawg Tags bring you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, like former first-round pick Johnny Manziel being removed from the CFL

He’s not a member of the Cleveland Browns any longer, but it’s hard not to see the news whenever it breaks around Johnny Manziel. And news happened on Wednesday in regards to the Browns former first-round pick.

After being unsuccessful in trying to get NFL teams to give him a second chance, Manziel headed north to play in the Canadian Football League. Things were rough for him there, and they got worse as he has been let go by the Montreal Alouettes — which was done after the league requested it.

The CFL went further to say no teams could add Johnny Football as he violated a contract that allowed him to play in Canada.

CFL directs Alouettes to release QB Manziel

"The Johnny Manziel experiment is over. The CFL terminated the former Heisman Trophy winner’s contract with the Montreal Alouettes on Wednesday. The league also informed the eight remaining clubs that it wouldn’t register a contract for Manziel if any tried to sign him."

It wasn’t too long ago that there was plenty of hype around Johnny Manziel and his attempt to come back and play football again. That took a major hit with the CFL not allowing him to play anymore. Perhaps he can find a home in the AAF or the soon to be re-launched XFL.

Kitchens: Hunt can do ‘most good’ in Cleveland — Pat McManamon, ESPN

"“In a lot of ways, you know, it’s more important for Kareem to make those advances and to evolve into a better person in his hometown. That’s where he’s going to do the most good.”"

There’s a flip-side to Kitchen’s take. Being around the city where Kareem Hunt messed up may not be the best for him as he could continue to hang around the people he found himself having problems with. Only time will tell if this will work for both sides.

Signing Rashard Higgins now top priority

With Greg Robinson locked up for 2019, the Browns now need to turn their attention to free agent Rashard Higgins. He started to break out in 2018 and could be one of the favorite targets for Baker Mayfield this coming season — provided he gets a new deal.
