The Daily Dawg Tags brings you all the Cleveland Browns news that you need to know, including if the Browns should draft a cornerback in the first round.

The Cleveland Browns kept people off track during the 2018 NFL Draft with their first two selections in the top-five of the draft.

Baker Mayfield was not expected to be the first overall selection until the night before. Then the Browns were expected to select Bradley Chubb with the fourth overall selection and the best pass rusher in the draft.

But instead of Chubb, Browns general manager John Dorsey surprised everybody and selected cornerback Denzel Ward. Dorsey made it known that he felt adding a shutdown cornerback was more important than a pass rusher.

Just one year later, Dorsey could once again go a variety of directions in the first round of the draft. Today’s featured article wonders if the Browns should target another cornerback with the 17th overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Browns Mailbag: Would a cornerback make sense for the Browns at No. 17? – Andrew Gribble, ClevelandBrowns.com

"If the Browns went that direction, it’d be the second straight year and third time since 2014 they devoted a first-round selection to a defensive back. And you know what? It wouldn’t be the craziest thing to do."

Although the Browns put a lot of work into rebuilding the defensive backs group last off-season, it did not result in a better passing defense. If Dorsey feels that he once again needs a potential shutdown cornerback instead of a pass rusher, then cornerback could be the way the Browns go in the first round.

Cleveland Browns Scribbles: Trading Duke Johnson? Advice for Breshad Perriman – Terry Pluto, Cleveland.com

"So, the Browns shouldn’t fall into the trap of thinking they have a durable Nick Chubb as a starter. They will have Hunt at some point. Maybe Johnson can bring them a second- or third-round draft pick — so think about trading him."

With rumors starting to swirl around running back Duke Johnson, it has created a debate. Does it makes more sense to hold on to Johnson as insurance or try to get another draft selection? If the Browns feel comfortable in Dontrell Hilliard or that they can find another depth running back, then a Johnson trade seems like a good possibility.
