3. Jermey Parnell, Offensive Tackle

The Browns are heading into 2019 with the same two tackles that finished the previous season. Both Greg Robinson and Chris Hubbard did fine during the final eight games of the year — which was evidenced by the fact that Baker Mayfield was sacked just five times in that span.

Robinson got a lot of credit for that, especially since the turnaround began as soon as he was inserted into the starting lineup. He was then rewarded with a one-year deal worth roughly $9 million. Still, there’s talk Cleveland could look to draft his eventual replacement.

If it’s true that Robinson isn’t guaranteed anything long-term, then neither should Hubbard. His play was less than ideal for much of the season and he underperformed in his five-year, $37.5 million deal. In addition, he was brought to the team in part due to his connection with Todd Haley, who is no longer the offensive coordinator.

Should the Browns decide to look for another option, someone like Jermey Parnell could make sense. The 6-foot-6, 325-pound Parnell has been with the Jacksonville Jaguars since 2015 but spent time with the New Orleans Saints and Miami Dolphins. However, it was when he joined the Dallas Cowboys in 2010 that Parnell’s career took off.

There, he converted from a defensive end to offensive tackle and ended up starting at right tackle when Doug Free was injured. His play was solid and led to his big contract with Jacksonville. At 32-years of age, he wouldn’t be a long-term answer but could either serve as a swing tackle or push someone like Hubbard to either improve or risk being out of a job.
