The Browns invited several players to their rookie mini-camp on a tryout basis and three of them ended up making the roster. One of those, Willie Harvey, has a shot at making the 53-man roster.

A linebacker at Iowa State, Harvey had 289 tackles in four seasons and proved to be incredibly consistent during the past three years of his collegiate career. He had at least 76 tackles in each of those seasons while also proving effective when used to blitz the quarterback.

An honorable All-Big 12 mention, Harvey’s biggest knock is his lack of size (6-foot, 224-pounds) but he does join a team that really wants to add depth and competition at linebacker. Admittedly, making the roster this season will be more difficult than one year ago after the attention paid to this group in free agency and the 2019 NFL Draft.

General manager John Dorsey signed free agent Adarius Taylor away from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers while also drafting Sione Takitaki in the third round and Mack Wilson in the fifth. Even with those players joining Joe Schobert and Christian Kirksey, Harvey could find himself in the mix for the 53-man roster.

Should they go seven deep at the position, he’s in a great spot to steal that final linebacker slot — especially if he proves himself capable on special teams during training camp and the preseason.
