1. Wyatt Ray, EDGE, Boston College

The Browns added a premium edge rusher opposite Myles Garrett when they traded for Olivier Vernon from the New York Giants. Then, they traded away Emmanuel Ogbah which made them somewhat thin behind their two starters.

Currently, Chris Smith, Anthony Zettel, and Chad Thomas are in line to back those two up. That trio combined for a total of one sack last season — which came courtesy of Smith who finished the season with 21 tackles in addition to his lone sack.

Zettel added 14 tackles but didn’t generate much help as a pass rusher for Cleveland. Thomas, on the other hand, recorded no stats at all and spent most of the season as a healthy scratch. He could still live up to his third-round status but as of now, there’s no one on the bench who can consistently bring pressure off the edge.

This could open things up for Wyatt Ray from Boston College. He spent the first three seasons of his career as a backup to Harold Landry and had just eight sacks in that span. He then got his shot in 2018 when Landry went pro and he made the best of it. Ray finished the year with 44 tackles and nine sacks which helped him get this shot with the Browns.

Ray isn’t the ideal size for a traditional 4-3 defensive end but that doesn’t mean he can’t produce as a rotational edge rusher on a team that can use some serious depth there.
