Mike Silver and Colin Cowherd duel for worst Cleveland Browns takes
By Randy Gurzi
Nothing makes Mike Silver or Colin Cowherd happier than bashing on the Cleveland Browns, but which one has the worst takes on the team?
There’s something about the Cleveland Browns that really bothers both Mike Silver and Colin Cowherd. Both have taken to the airwaves repeatedly to rip on the Browns and some of their players — although it’s mainly Baker Mayfield. And both are incapable of admitting they’re wrong. But the question is this: who is worse with their Cleveland takes?
For Cowherd, it seemed to all start when they took Mayfield first overall out of Oklahoma in 2018. The FS1 host was high on USC’s Sam Darnold and didn’t think anyone would draft a quarterback over his golden boy, let alone someone like Mayfield who he called “undraftable.”
The two have gone back and forth since then with Baker always coming out on top. He even destroyed Cowherd when the pundit went after Odell Beckham, Jr. recently showing he has his teammates backs.
Or does he?
If you were to ask Michael Silver, Mayfield doesn’t have his teammates backs. And his teammates are ready to let Mayfield know how he should be acting.
The latest from Silver is that veterans went to Mayfield and told him they weren’t happy with his words about Duke Johnson who was demanding a trade. Oh, and he also suggests the offense is struggling to adapt to Todd Monken, because why not?
While Silver does have a seat on the NFL Network, he’s hard to take too serious. Silver holds a vendetta against the Browns because of his friendship with Hue Jackson ‚— who was fired last season. Ever since then, he’s been on the warpath and has made it his goal to prove the Browns are a team in disarray — although the 3-36-1 record under his buddy Hue was just fine.
In fact, even Silver’s colleagues don’t take his ranting about Cleveland seriously. This was evident when Rich Eisen got up and started looking for Hue Jackson the last time Silver went off on the NFL Network about Mayfield needing to be more mature as a leader.
In the end, both Silver and Cowherd are simply sticking to their guns and refusing to back down even when proven wrong. Mayfield outplayed Darnold, but Cowherd still likes the USC product better. Jackson couldn’t win games but Silver still thinks he’s a great coach and the Browns did him wrong.
As for which is worse, it feels as though Silver needs to take the prize. Cowherd is simply spouting off his opinion, which everyone is entitled to. He’s not always right, but he’s never claiming to have sources.
Silver does claim that, which is funny considering how he has bashed the team so frequently. It seems odd that anyone would leak stories to him, and usually whatever he says gets shut down quickly — just as this latest one did when Jarvis Landry came out and defended Mayfield in the while Duke fiasco. So sorry Mike, but we’ll wait to hear this story from someone else before we start freaking out.
