Damon Sheehy-Guiseppi

You knew he had to be here. Cleveland’s newest favorite son, Damon Sheehy-Guiseppi, captured the hearts of the Dawg Pound with his inspiring story. Not to mention, the Phoenix College product brought the 4.3 40-yard dash speed to back that story up.

There has not been a moment in the preseason, especially for the Browns, like Sheehy-Guiseppi’s in quite some time. An 86-yard punt return touchdown in real NFL action from a 24-year old rookie who was homeless just months ago? Hollywood couldn’t have written a better script. But now, the million-dollar question on everyone’s mind: can he do it again?

Or, rather, are Sheehy-Guiseppi’s talents enough to earn him a spot on the Browns’ 53-man roster? The Browns have not had a return specialist of any significant caliber on their roster since Josh Cribbs, and have often opted for a wide receiver or Jabrill Peppers to return on kicks and punts. Sheehy-Guiseppi could work wonders for Cleveland’s special teams unit, if they choose to keep him.

Preseason week two will almost certainly feature more of the Cleveland Browns’ best feel-good story in years, and give him more opportunities to prove his worth. If Damon Sheehy-Guiseppi continues his performance with a strong showing against the Colts in week two of the preseason, he could be well on his way to an NFL contract and a roster spot. And what an incredible NFL journey that would be.
