The Daily Dawg Tags brings you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, including how the Browns should have seen their struggles coming.

The Cleveland Browns were eliminated from playoff contention following their Week 16 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. After their roller coaster ride of a season, not making the playoffs was not a surprise.

However, despite all of the expectations during training camp, the team should have seen this possibility coming. Even with all of the talent they compiled, there was a good chance of this coming.

One of the biggest reasons the Browns were expected to struggle was because of Freddie Kitchens’ lack of experience as a head coach. Even after all of his time coaching in the NFL, it was clear he was not ready to be a head coach.

Lessons from six disappointing NFL teams: Barnwell on what went wrong and what’s next – Bill Barnwell, ESPN

"Asking a first-time coach to manage a room full of egos when the minimum expectation is a playoff berth is a lot. Kitchens also refused to lighten his load by giving up playcalling duties to former Bucs offensive coordinator Todd Monken."

The Browns wanting to give Baker Mayfield continuity with the coaching staff made sense, but it is clear that is one of the largest reasons for his regression. Kitchens did not know how to balance his workload and the team suffered because of it.

Baker Mayfield is lacking leadership

Browns’ Kareem Hunt reflects on his year of redemption: ‘I’ll never forget last Christmas’ – Mary Kay Cabot, Cleveland.com

"“I’m just so grateful,’’ he said. “I’m more appreciative of the game, my job, getting up coming to work every day, it’s a blessing. Every time I wake up in the morning I’m blessed to see another day and get to come out here and come to great this facility and see these great players and coaches. Every moment, every stage means so much to me.”"

There were a lot of questions around Kareem Hunt about if he would be able to put his ugly past behind him with the Browns. But after the consequences he paid for his actions, it looks like Hunt realized what he has to do to continue to have the privilege to play in the NFL. Bringing him to his hometown team may have been what Hunt needed for his first year back in the NFL.
