By Dan Justik
The Daily Dawg Tags brings you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, including Sheldon Richardson excelling in an unexpected role.
The Cleveland Browns defense has been mangled with injuries and suspensions this season, hurting the overall effectiveness of the unit. But one positive out of the chaos on the defensive side of the ball has been the emergence of Sheldon Richardson as a leader.
Richardson was a big addition for the Browns in the offseason because he would help solidify the interior of the defensive line. Oftentimes in 2018 the interior would get bullied and allowed opponents to run all over the Browns defense.
However, during the middle of the season with Myles Garrett suspended and Olivier Vernon off the field with injuries, Richardson was forced to step up and become a leader on the defensive line. And it was a role he thrived in.

Once the Browns were without Garrett and Vernon, someone was going to need to step up as a leader and as a performer. Richardson has done so in both ways and has been a bright spot on a defense that has struggled during the second half of the season.
Where are David Njoku and Rashard Higgins?
The Browns were expected to be an explosive offense in 2019 because of their deep group of weapons at the skill positions, but that has not been the case. Elliot Kennel wonders why the Browns are unable to use two of their better offensive weapons in David Njoku and Rashard Higgins.
"“Just talking to the doctors and the early scans from OTAs and things like that, I began with a fractured sacrum and then from there everything else just kinda started going bad,” Landry said Thursday. He visibly limped to the microphone stand for his weekly media interview."
Jarvis Landry has been criticized in Cleveland because of the cost of his contract and if he is worth it or not. However, Landry has always seemed like an emotional leader for the team, and playing with a fractured vertebra all season goes to show the lengths of what he is willing to do for his teammates and why he can be such a good leader.
