Jarvis Landry described some awkwardness between himself and new Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones

Jarvis Landry is a leader in the Cleveland Browns locker room, which is why sixth-round rookie Donovan Peoples-Jones is leaning on him as he prepares to enter the league. And thankfully, Landry now knows they’re teammates.

Landry recently opened up about him and DPJ working together and told a story about how he received a text from the rookie but didn’t realize the team drafted him.

The veteran receiver called the moment awkward but surely it’s not the first time that happened. The good news is, Peoples-Jones showed the initiative to reach out to someone who understands the game and get advice.

And Landry says he’s encouraged by the young man’s desire to learn and get better every day. That story and more can be found in today’s Daily Dawg Tags.

Jarvis Landry had an awkward moment with new Browns teammate Donovan Peoples-Jones, but he’s happy to have him — Dan Labbe, Cleveland.com

"“Then I looked on Instagram and I saw we drafted him,” Landry said in a video call with local media on Wednesday, “and I was like, ‘Oh, wait. We drafted you.’ It was kind of like an awkward moment.”"

Landry responded to a text from Peoples-Jones before he knew the Browns drafted him, which is probably not uncommon. He had stopped watching the draft during the final rounds, which is understandable. The two seem to get along great and the rookie praised Landry for his willingness to answer all his questions.

Jarvis Landry ‘ahead of schedule’ in his rehab from hip surgery and Odell Beckham’s process ‘has motivated me’ — Mary Kay Cabot, Cleveland.com

"“Right now, I’m a little bit ahead of schedule,’’ Landry said on Zoom call with Browns media on Wednesday. “But the most important thing right now is just taking it day by day, you know I can’t predict when exactly I’ll be on the field whether that’s July, August or September, but obviously my return day is sometime in August.”"

Another story about Landry here, and it’s positive news. Both he and Odell Beckham, Jr. dealt with injuries last season so getting them healthy could make a huge difference.

Browns sign 2 draft picks — ClevelandBrowns.com

"“The Cleveland Browns have signed TE Harrison Bryant and WR Donovan Peoples-Jones. They are the first of the club’s seven 2020 draft picks to sign.”"

The rookies usually know what their contracts are going to be based on where they’re drafted, so there’s not really a lot of drama surrounding the contract talks. Still, it’s good to start getting them signed sooner rather than later.
