Cleveland Browns Roster Prediction: Specialist (3)

The specialists jobs are thankless. No one really praises them a ton but instead, they’re expected to come on and do their job after long stretches of sitting on the sidelines. Then if they do make a mistake, it can be unforgiving. For the Browns, they’re thankful to have a strong trio of special teams players who all get it done with ease.

Austin Seibert, Jamie Gillan, Charley Hughlett

Austin Seibert was a fifth-round pick last season and John Dorsey made that selection simply because he didn’t want there to be any issues in the kicking game. As a rookie, Seibert was good, finishing with a completion percentage of 86.2 while knocking in 25-of-29 kicks. He did have some shaky extra points, finishing that with a mark of 30-for-35.

In year two, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him take a step forward. He has what it takes and doesn’t shake in the big moments, which is all you can ask.

As for their punter — this dude is legit. Jamie Gillan has the greatest nickname for a punter, ‘the Scottish Hammer’, and an engaging personality to match. He was undrafted last season but won the team over with his booming kicks and hard hits when tracking down the ball carrier.

The trio is rounded out by Charley Hughlett, the team’s long-time long-snapper. He’s one of the longest-tenured players on the team and all he does is snap the ball perfectly — every time. It might not seem like much, but that’s important.
