Browns interest in the early Thanksgiving games

For the early game, a Charlie Brown Thanksgiving would be much more exciting than watching the Detroit Lions and Houston Texans struggle in the early game. Houston would like to tank for draft position, except they already traded their draft pick to the Miami Dolphins, and Detroit is playing for coach Matt Patricia’s job, except all the players do not seem to like him. Detroit is a home team underdog despite having a better record than Houston. That’s a bit of a rarity.

For many years, Matt Stafford has wasted his career despite being an excellent quarterback. We are seeing his story repeat itself in the case of Deshaun Watson, a superstar who got absolutely no help from his teammates, and anyone who was any good was traded away in order to build the defense. Just scramble, Deshaun. Create. They will build a team around you by 2030, if you will just be patient.

Half the Houston team is made up of ex-Browns including halfback Duke Johnson, cornerbacks Eric Murray and Phillip Gaines; tight ends Darren Fells and  Pharaoh Brown; backup tackle Roderick Johnson; backup linebacker Nate Orchard; and backup quarterback Josh McCown.

Houston is now coached by Romeo Crennel, the former coach of the Browns and longtime Belichick assistant with the New England Patriots. You will recall that Crennel led the Browns to a 10-6 record in 2007, one of the greatest achievements for the Browns in this century. It would be nice to see him do well. He seems like a class individual through and through.

He will be facing Matt Patricia, another Belichick defensive assistant who perhaps does not seem to be a class individual, at least not in a football context, because many of his players and ex-players seem to hate him. Apparently, he got the idea from Belichick that the head coach needs to act like a jerk, so he does.

In the Sporting News, Garrett Hudson is quoted by Jordan Heck as saying,

"“Matt Patricia is literally the worst person I’ve encountered in my entire football career. I was excited when the Lions cut me. It was that bad.”"

However, Hudson also qualified his remarks by saying that Patricia seemed like a nice guy outside of the football context.

Nevertheless, Wisconsin at Northwestern is sounding mighty good.
