Cleveland Browns: 5 2021 Pro Bowl snubs
By Sam Penix
3. J.C. Tretter, C
Veteran center J.C. Tretter has been one of the NFL’s very best centers for the past six years but has never received the recognition he deserves. He’s as consistent a pass protector as you can find, yet Maurkice Pouncey of the Pittsburgh Steelers, who hasn’t been good since 2018, gets the nod instead. Tretter is even the NFL Players Association president, but that clearly was not enough to get his name called.
He’s one of the most intelligent players in the league and rarely makes a mental mistake. He hasn’t missed a snap since arriving in Cleveland in 2017 and has proven to be an excellent free-agent signing. He’s played through just about every type of injury you can think of, but hasn’t left the field.
It’s a shame Tretter doesn’t have a Pro Bowl or All-Pro selection to his name, because he really does deserve it. The Browns did draft his eventual replacement in Nick Harris, but Tretter has yet to turn 30 and is still under contract through 2022, so now that the Browns are a good team, perhaps he’ll be appreciated more nationally. Browns fans certainly know how valuable he is, especially when remembering the player who he succeeded, Cam Erving.
