Daily Dawg Tags bring you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know

When the Cleveland Browns convinced Chris Hubbard to stay on at a reduced salary, it didn’t make a lot of waves. That’s because Hubbard struggled in 2019 and many fans were just surprised to see he was still on the roster.

Then, Hubbard turned some heads. He has stepped in for Jack Conklin at right tackle and Wyatt Teller at right guard and the offensive line hasn’t missed a beat. That could change now, however, as Hubbard has been lost for the season with a knee injury.

Cleveland lost Hubbard early in their win over the Giants and while rookie Nick Harris played well at guard, they have also lost their swing tackle. It’s a huge blow but thankfully offensive line coach Bill Callahan has the entire line performing well.

It’s still tough to see the loss, especially after the huge strides Hubbard made in 2020. That story and more can be found in today’s Daily Dawg Tags.

Browns’ Chris Hubbard to miss ‘significant time’ due to knee injury — AP via FOX 8

"“The versatile offensive lineman is expected to undergo season-ending right surgery after he injured his knee in the opening minutes of Sunday night’s win over the New York Giants.”"

Hubbard is still under contract for 2021, so hopefully, he will be back for the Browns. His value is hard to quantify as he’s stepped in at more than one position and played exceptionally well.

"“But now they have Mayfield, an elite distributor aligned with Coach of the Year candidate Kevin Stefanski, who plays to the young signal-caller’s strengths.”"

As Sobleski points out, the success of Mayfield has a lot to do with Kevin Stefanski. The first-year head coach understands what No. 6 does well and puts him in a position to succeed. So far, that’s paying off in a big way.
