The Daily Dawg Tags bring you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, including one writer who thinks they can be a top-3 team in 2021

As hard as it was to watch the Cleveland Browns season end at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round, it did show us one thing ‚— they can hang with anyone in the NFL.

The Browns lost by five but they were in it until the last minute and even before Patrick Mahomes was injured, they were showing the moment wasn’t too big for them. While that doesn’t help end the sting of them not being in the Super Bowl this week, it does give us hope that they can be one of the best teams again in 2021.

That’s at least the feeling from Doug Lesmerises, of Cleveland.com, who asks if the Browns actually ended this season as the third-best team in the NFL.

That story and more can be found in today’s Daily Dawg Tags.

Cleveland Browns News

Are we sure the Cleveland Browns aren’t the third-best team in the NFL? — Doug Lesmerises, Cleveland.com

"“Therefore, rolling into the offseason, the Browns should only take a backseat to Kansas City in the NFL hierarchy. And OK, I’ll give a nod to Brady, the greatest quarterback of all-time, who’s backed by a top-five defense masterfully run by Tampa Bay defensive coordinator Todd Bowles.”"

Lesmerises admits the Browns are in a crowded spot with the Bills, Packers, Ravens, Saints, and Seahawks all in the same range as Cleveland. But the fact remains, this team can hang with anyone and if they improve the defense in 2021, that could be even more true.

Cleveland Browns to wear throwback alternate uniforms for 75th anniversary — Ben Axelrod, WKYC.com

"“In 2021, the Cleveland Browns will celebrate their 75th anniversary. And as a part of the festivities, it appears they will be wearing throwback alternate uniforms for at least one game.”"

The Browns unveiled an alternative logo which itself was a thing of beauty. Hopefully whatever throwback they go with will be as welcome.

Would the Browns be interested in the Texans’ J.J. Watt? Hey, Mary Kay! — Mary Kay Cabot, Cleveland.com

"“I would think he’s someone the Browns would at least consider as a bookend to Myles Garrett and a replacement for Olivier Vernon, who suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon and whose contract is up. A change of scenery might bring out the beast again in Watt, who had 16 sacks in 2018. The problem is, a team won’t give up much in draft pick compensation for a one-year rental. If they could get him for a mid-round pick and keep him for at least two years, they might think about it.”"

There was another Houston player who made headlines this week — and when one of our writers looked at the possibility of adding him, it sent shockwaves through Browns Twitter. While that was firing people up, there was also talk of J.J. Watt heading out of Houston and he actually makes a lot of sense for the Browns — as long as the price is right, that is.

3 offseason trade targets from Jaguars

Urban Meyer has taken over for the Jaguars, and that could lead to them making some changes to their roster. With that being the case, the Browns could call and ask about these three players to see if they’re available.
