Adding one free agent to the Cleveland Browns roster from every AFC East team

Welcome to our second edition of “Pick-a-Player” for the Cleveland Browns. It’s a concept that is simple — and exactly what it sounds like. In this scenario, I am the Cleveland Browns and I’m able to sign one player from each of the teams in that specific division, in this case, the AFC East.

The only requirements are they must have finished the 2020-2021 NFL season on a team who is in the division we are focusing on and that player must be a free agent going into the offseason. If you missed the last installment, you can find it here. In this installment, we’ll be going over the AFC East.

Also remember, this is not exactly a prediction of what the Browns will do but what they could do — or even better, what I would do if I were making the calls and could add one free agent from every AFC East team.

Buffalo Bills – Andre Roberts, WR/KR

This was a tough one, it really was. Matt Milano was the guy I originally had in mind when I was planning this edition of the “Pick-a-Player.” Milano is an above-average coverage linebacker who played very well for the Bills this past season. I went and looked at the other impending free agents for the Bills and then I saw three-time Pro Bowler and first-time All-Pro return specialist Andre Roberts.

Roberts is the perfect player for this Browns team, he can be an emergency wide receiver if need be and he is an instant upgrade over the current punt and kick returner, Donovan Peoples-Jones.

With the special teams unit being one of the weakest parts of this team, Roberts brings that explosiveness that the Browns so desperately need. Roberts isn’t being brought in as a wide receiver per se, he’s being brought in to do what he does best, return punts and kicks.

If I was looking for a player to line up alongside Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr. as a pure receiver then I would’ve gone in the direction of Isaiah McKenzie. Roberts fills one of the biggest holes on this team after DPJ completely fell apart towards the end of last season.
