The Daily Dawg Tags bring you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, including one insider saying Lavonte David is a free agent target

With free agency right around the corner, there will be plenty of rumors coming across the wire — and for the Cleveland Browns, those rumors will continue to center around defensive players. The Browns went 11-5 last season and won a playoff game but did so despite a frustratingly bad defense.

There will be calls for them to upgrade several positions on that side of the ball with linebacker being the spot where an upgrade is most needed. And if Mary Kay Cabot is correct, the Browns could be in the market for a big upgrade.

Cabot says that they have their eyes on Lavonte David, who just won a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The problem is, David is set to command a big contract and general manager Andrew Berry is an analytics guy who doesn’t seem ready to fork out a big contract for a linebacker.

Still, that doesn’t mean they won’t kick the tires. A look at this possibility and more can be found in today’s Daily Dawg Tags.

Cleveland Browns News

Bucs LB Lavonte David, Jets WR Breshad Perriman among free agents on Browns’ radar — Mary Kay Cabot, Cleveland.com

"” The Browns could’ve used linebacker Lavonte David to help chase down Chad Henne in the AFC divisional playoff loss to the Chiefs, but maybe he’ll be in a Browns uniform when they visit the Chiefs next season.”"

In addition to David, Mary Kay Cabot says the Browns might be interested in reuniting with Breshad Perriman. That move would also make a lot of sense considering his ability to get deep, which is something they struggled with last season — especially in the loss to the Chiefs.

Browns: Team should be weary about trading for Marshon Lattimore — Chad Porto, Factory of Sadness

"“The Browns are going to remake their defense in 2021 but trading for Saints CB Marshon Lattimore may prove more costly than he’s worth.”"

Porto points out that Lattimore’s effectiveness was down last season but he will still cost far too much to acquire and pay. For that reason, he thinks the Browns are better off letting the Saints — or someone else — pay for the former Ohio State star.
