Cleveland Browns: 14 defensive line targets in free agency

2. Davon Godchaux – Miami Dolphins – 26
Davon Godchaux also suffered a season-ending injury in 2020, but put up three quality seasons against the run before that. He doesn’t offer much as a rusher, but again, if you’re looking at a player to be a backup, you’re not expecting him to an all-around guy. As a rotational one-tech, Godchaux would be just fine.
1. Poona Ford – Seattle Seahawks – 25
Ford went undrafted in 2018 because he was seen as too small to hold up unside at 5-11 310 pounds. His short stature hasn’t stopped him from becoming one of the league’s best run defenders, although it is unknown whether the Browns would want a true nose tackle, or if Ford would be as effective playing over a gap instead. Typically, it’s more important to pay attention to the player than the scheme, but in Ford’s case, his size may not translate well to a different orientation.
Andrew Billings and Jordan Elliott are practically guaranteed to have roles in 2021. Sheldon Richardson is not guaranteed to be on the team given his expensive contract and low dead cap hit. Even if Richardson remains on the roster, the Browns will need a fourth DT to complete the rotation, and there quality options at a variety of price points and skillsets.
