Browns mock draft: 7-round mock draft weekend edition
By Greg Newland
Round 3 – No. 92: Quinn Meinerz – Offensive Line, Wisconsin-Whitewater
In this simulation, I was able to move back from pick No. 89 to No. 92 and move up from No. 169 to no. 1345 later in that draft. Not only did I land a stud in Quinn Meinerz in Round 3, but the Browns also moved from the fifth round, back into the fourth.
Do the Browns need an interior lineman in 2021? Probably you can’t pass on a guy like Meinerz if he is available here. Remember, money doesn’t grow on trees so having Joel Bitonio, J.C. Tretter, and Wyatt Teller as your three starters won’t last forever.
Nick Harris has shown promise from the 2020 draft, but Meinerz is the much-needed piece to solidify the offensive line for another four years. Then in two years when the Browns must make some tough financial decisions, the offensive line can be taken off the list because of building through the draft.
This small college guy could be the next big star at guard in the NFL.
Round 4 – No. 110: Joe Tryon – Edge, Washington
With the team’s biggest need at defensive end, look for Berry to stock up on a few of these guys in the later rounds to see if he can strike gold. Drafting Joe Tryon from Washington at No. 110 would be doing just that.
Tryon was effective in 2019, but after opting out in 2020 there isn’t a ton of tape to know the full depth of his game. With only one year of great production, some teams won’t want to take the chance on him.
If Tryon can add 15-20 pounds to his frame and continue to improve his technique, he is a guy that could easily start in the NFL.
