After so many injuries in 2020 for the Browns in the secondary, they will start the season healthy with a few new faces. Rookie Greg Newsome and third-year player Greedy Williams will likely have a strong battle for the second corner position, as well as Grant Delpit and Ronnie Harrison as the starting strong safety.

Please keep in mind, Harrison and Delpit will be on the field plenty together with John Johson (free safety), as defensive coordinator Joe Woods fully implements his 4-2-5 scheme.  The real question is who gets the strong safety snaps in the 4-3 scheme.

Harrison will open as the favorite after a great season with the Browns. In a year where the defense was so bad, Harrison was one of the real bright spots. He has athleticism for coverage, and the toughness to help in run support.

However, Delpit will be healthy for the first time in two full years. Remember, he played most of his junior year in college with a high ankle sprain that really slowed him down.

With a clean bill of health, look for Delpit to be the stud the Browns believed they drafted. Woods will certainly move him around the entire field in his scheme, but don’t expect him to come off the field in three linebacker sets.  Delpit will be one of the biggest surprises of the 2021 season.
