5. D’Ernest Johnson, Running Back

One player who had some success in 2020 that could not make the roster in 2021 is D’Ernest Johnson. As the third running back, Johnson has been a minimal contributor the last two seasons. However, the undrafted free agent showed some serious promise last year during the time Nick Chubb was sidelined from an injury.

Johnson had 33 carries for 166 yards last year, most of which came during the game vs. the Dallas Cowboys. He was a hard runner and had shown he had the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield.

The biggest reason that Johnson will likely be on the way out is rookie sixth-round pick, Demetric Felton. Not only does Felton have skills running the football, some questioned if he would just try and play wide receiver at the next level because of his skillset.

Don’t expect Felton to take any touches away from Chubb or Kareem Hunt in 2021 but look for Kevin Stefanski to keep him around to see if he could be the next great Cleveland running back. Even though he was only a sixth-round pick, Johnson hasn’t done enough to not give Felton a chance to prove himself.

Having both Chubb and Hunt is a fantastic luxury that could be over sooner than later. Cleveland Browns fans should enjoy it why we have it.
