Cleveland Browns breakout candidate No. 2: Mack Wilson

Mack Wilson is another player that may be playing for a spot on the Cleveland Browns’ roster this year. He was forced to switch from middle linebacker to weakside linebacker last season.

Along with this, injuries and coaches’ decisions led to Wilson playing in 89% of defensive snaps his rookie year to 35% of defensive snaps last season.

His stats also took a major dip last season. He did not pull in an interception or force a fumble last season. Along with this, he had five fewer passes defended, 33 fewer solo tackles, ten less assisted tackles, three fewer tackles for loss, and two fewer QB hits.

Wilson has been someone to keep an eye on during the Browns’ training camp. So far, he has been one of the standouts. If he is able to continue this into the regular season, Wilson could finally claim his spot as a full-time starter for the Browns.

If he is able to fight his way onto the field, Wilson will be poised to have the best season of his career.

Wilson is also playing for a possible extension after this season. His rookie deal is set to expire in the 2022 season. If he continues to be one of the standout players on the Browns’ defense, Wilson could very well work his way into a quality extension.

Barring injury, this will be the season that Wilson is finally able to break through and develop into the linebacker the Browns have been expecting him to be for the past two seasons.
