The Daily Dawg Tags bring you all the news you need to know, including all the reactions to the initial 53-man Cleveland Browns roster

It’s never fun to see players have their dreams either ended or at least detoured but that’s one of the harsh realities in the NFL. On Tuesday, that was what was going around as the Cleveland Browns and the rest of the NFL had to cut their rosters down to 53 players.

That sent several guys to the waiver wire where every team can now try and claim them. It also gave us our first 53-man roster for the 2021 season.

As for the Browns roster, there was a lot to take away and today’s Daily Dawg Tag is a roundup of several reactions to the initial 53.

Cleveland Browns roster news

4 takeaways from the Browns’ initial 53-man roster — Andrew Gribble, ClevelandBrowns.com

"“At last, some unprecedented stability on offense. That was the hope when the Browns attacked the offensive side of the ball during the 2020 offseason, and it’s certainly apparent in the initial 2021 53-man roster. A whopping 22 of the 25 offensive players finished the previous season with the team.”"

In addition to the unprecedented offensive continuity, Gribble talked about the fact that this roster is the “initial” 53. That means it will remain fluid not only for the next week or so as they make claims and release other players, but for the entire season as well. Still, this 53 gives us a great idea of what this team plans to be in 2021. But the bottom of the roster is still not 100 percent safe.

Browns cut down day: Quick thoughts on final roster moves — Jared Mueller, Browns Wire

"“The team is in discussion for a variety of trades but, with so many moving pieces throughout the NFL at the same time, it can get difficult.”"

Before the final moves were made, Mueller was one of many people covering the team to bring up the idea of trades happening. In the end, the Browns roster was set without them moving or adding any players this way — but that doesn’t mean it can’t still happen.

Browns to cut former Notre Dame star defender — Nick Shepkowski, Fighting Irish Wire

"“Yet another former Notre Dame standout was cut Tuesday as the Cleveland Browns released defensive tackle Sheldon Day.”"

This move seemed to be one of the surprises since Sheldon Day played so well in the preseason. However, it makes sense the more you think about it. Cleveland has some injured players that needed to be on the 53-man roster so they can be moved to the IR with a designation to return. Day is a vested veteran who isn’t subject to waivers. This is likely a formality and he should be back in a couple of days.
