Cleveland Browns FA to avoid No. 2 – Sheldon Richardson

There was a ton of disappointment when the Cleveland Browns released Sheldon Richardson before the 2021 season. The guy played his heart out in 2020 and was one of the better defenders on the field most of the time.

Richardson and Kevin Stefanski knew each other from their time in Minnesota, but a reunion just doesn’t make sense at this time. While I was as upset as anyone last year when they released him, I don’t think he would be a good fit next year.

Not only is Richardson a year older, but his price tag will also be higher than the Browns should pay. There’s no doubt the team needs an upgrade at defensive tackle, but this should be a focus in the draft, not in free agency.

Berry went to the discount bin for 2021 at defensive tackle, and it was a huge mistake. The Browns often got a great pass rush off the edge but could never collapse the pocket and make things really difficult on a quarterback.

I loved Richardson’s game, but at 32 years of age, his prime is just too far behind him. Unless he was willing to take a big discount to come and play for a contender, Berry should pass on bringing the big man back.
