Daily Dawg Tags: Jarvis Landry dominated headlines out of nowhere
By Randy Gurzi
The Daily Dawg Tags bring you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know including several looks at the Jarvis Landry fiasco
Things went from all quiet, to all-out messy in a heartbeat. Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry stayed ultra-quiet all season, even when his friend Odell Beckham was released, but that changed on Tuesday.
Landry let his feelings be known as he posted a cryptic Instagram video followed by a Twitter tirade where he said he wanted to stay in Cleveland — but also made it sound as though he was done with the team.
Of course, this lead to him dominating the headlines as fans were left trying to figure out what to make of this. Did it mean he was done with the team or is he — like OBJ was — done with the quarterback?
A look at this fallout and more can be found in today’s Daily Dawg Tags.
Cleveland Browns News
"“Landry is not a free agent but has no guaranteed money left on his deal.”"
The final line in Trotter’s piece is the most important. Landry just had the worst statistical season of his career and the timing for him couldn’t have been worse since the guaranteed money is not an issue. He can be released without the team owing him anything, and that’s likely to happen. The ball is in the Browns court, but his performance is a major reason for that.
Jarvis Landry seems content on being a cap casualty for the Browns — Chad Porto, Facotry of Sadness
"“This takes us to a few key things. Firstly, Landry is saying all the right things; but he’s not doing all the right things. He’s being cryptic, sub-tweeting, and liking provocative statements on Twitter, all while saying he wants to say in Cleveland. Yet, he knows he’s not going to make a lot of money in free agency; he’s slow, injury-prone, and no longer as reliable as he once was. He knows one way or another he’s not getting that $16 million.”"
From here, Porto asks why Landry doesn’t want to re-work his deal if he knows he won’t make more on the open market ‚— and his answer is that he wants out but doesn’t feel it’s best for his image to say as much. That’s probably not true though. The sub-tweeting and cryptic messages are much worse than being honest and saying ‘I want a fresh start’.
