No. 1 – Perrion Winfrey, Defensive Tackle

Now saying that Perrion Winfrey ends up as a starting defensive tackle for 2022 may not be a huge surprise to some, but it wouldn’t certainly be a huge feat for the rookie from Oklahoma. The Browns certainly have some talent at the interior defensive line position, but they are lacking consistency.

Taven Bryan, Jordan Elliott, and Tommy Togiai are the top three guys, and none have shown they can be a consistent every-down player. My only frustration with Berry this offseason is really at defensive tackle. He added two solid guys in Bryan and Winfrey, but now he has four guys who can rush the passer and none who are run stoppers.

I think Winfrey’s motor and lack of talent at the position will give him a shot to start at the beginning of the year, or at least give him meaningful snaps. He must be careful to not get out of position and leave huge running lanes open, but there is no doubt he can be a huge asset as a pass rusher.

In a dream scenario, Berry would add another free agent nose tackle who can stuff the run, and then he can use his arsenal of young pass rushers at the position to create havoc for opposing quarterbacks.
