The Daily Dawg Tags bring you all the Cleveland Browns news you need, including a look at Kareem Hunt being denied a trade request

It didn’t take long for this one to escalate. Just a few days ago, Kareem Hunt was saying he wanted to stay with the Cleveland Browns long-term and added that he hoped a new deal could be worked out.

However, things started to shift over the weekend as Hunt missed back-to-back team drills as he was frustrated over the lack of movement in extension talks. This culminated in him requesting a trade, which Cleveland quickly denied.

Hunt did return to the field Sunday but chances remain high that he’s not thrilled with entering 2022 with no security beyond this year.

That story and more can be found in today’s Daily Dawg Tags.

Cleveland Browns News

Sources: RB Kareem Hunt requests trade but Cleveland Browns decline — Jake Trotter, Associated Press on ESPN

"“Hunt, who is in the final year of a two-year, $12 million deal, had missed team drills the past two practices but returned to them on Sunday.”"

The problem for Hunt is that he has no leverage. Cleveland has multiple backs so his holdout won’t help him. He’s also due just $6 million — none of which would be dead money should he be released or traded — which isn’t much for someone of his talent.

It’s hard to ever blame a player for wanting to capitalize on their career, but Hunt’s best play would surely be to suit up this season and hope to stay healthy. If he does, he would enter free agency in 2023 with much more leverage for a big payday than he has right now.

Cleveland Browns training camp day 10: David Bell happy to be back on the field — Chris Easterling, Akron Beacon Journal

"“It feels phenomenal to be back, to be back on the field with the players most importantly now,” Bell said before Sunday’s training camp practice. “Being able to finally be out there and be in the offense and being able to run the routes so I can be more familiar with it. Being out was tough.”"

During minicamps and OTAs, Bell was catching everything thrown his way. The third-round pick from Purdue is expected to have a big rookie season for Cleveland and having him back out there was huge for him — and the team.

Jakeem Grant will be a weapon in Cleveland Browns offense

He’s made waves as a return man but Jakeem Grant has been working with the first-team offense at receiver as of late. He could find himself being a weapon on offense as well as on special teams.
