Cleveland Browns: 3 players to watch in Week 2 against Philadelphia
By John Suchan
Player No. 1: Anthony Schwartz, WR
Anthony Schwartz couldn’t have had a worse start to his season with the performance he displayed on Friday. It was awful and he certainly got most Browns fans grumbling about his future with the team.
All eyes will be on him Sunday after this.
We’ll see if Brissett throws in his direction at the start of the game. Last week, Watson tried throwing to Schwartz three times, and none worked. The first was an overthrow by Watson. The other two passes thrown his way were perfect and he still dropped them.
It’s been well reported that the Browns drafted rookie David Bell to help in the wide receiver room. It’s not that Bell would replace Schwartz in that 53-man roster but with that dreadful performance last Friday, the former Auburn track star will need to do something Sunday to stave off a few other guys the team has in that room. Mike Harley Jr, Ja’Marcus Bradley, and Javon Wims could all contend.
If the team keeps six wide receivers and they keep their late-round pick, Mike Woods, from Oklahoma and then that leaves the rest of the group vying for those last two spots.
There are several other free agent wide receivers still out there such as veteran Cole Beasley, who most recently played for the Buffalo Bills, so Schwartz better bring his “A” game Sunday.
Maybe the expectations were too high, to begin with for the young man. Time will tell but let’s hope we see a better game by him.
Enjoy the game folks Sunday! Remember it’s still just a preseason game and there are lots of kinks to work out before the regular season.
