No. 2 – Denzel Mims

Rumors have recently broken that Denzel Mims wants out of the New York Jets organization. The former second-round pick has only racked up 490 yards receiving and zero touchdowns in his first two seasons in the NFL.

Mims has a ton of upside at 6-foot-3, 207 pounds, but there is certainly some risk. He isn’t the first receiver to come out of the Big 12 and struggle at the next level. But also, Mims has had shaky quarterback play (at best), as well as a struggling offensive line to protect a quarterback in New York.

There’s no doubt that Mims just needs a fresh start, but the question Andrew Berry needs to answer is, will he become a No. 2 receiver with a fresh start? The Browns are so depleted at the position, even at the right price they can’t afford to miss. The upside for Mims is enticing, but there’s also a chance he will continue to struggle and be considered a bust.

The good news for the Browns, if they really want to address this issue, they could trade next to nothing for Mims, and still, bring in a veteran with plenty of cap to spare in 2022. This scenario would force them to cut one of their current young developing players but would help them stay in “win now” mode.
