No. 3 – Denzel Ward

After getting paid this offseason, it has been an extremely disappointing year for Denzel Ward. After missing the last three games with a concussion (which is extremely alarming), one would argue this defense has played better without the pro bowler on the field.

Not only has Ward struggled in pass coverage and assignments this season, but he has also gone to social media to defend his play which is never a good sign. On numerous occasions this season when a busted coverage happens, Ward is involved.

Because the coverage hasn’t been as good from Ward, the poor tackling has also been exposed more and more this year. If he can keep guys from catching the ball, it doesn’t matter. But when he’s in a soft zone giving up a ton of yards, not being able to get a guy on the ground is a huge concern.

I don’t need Ward to play like a rover in the NFL, but he needs to communicate and tighten up the coverage. Joe Woods has really changed the scheme since the injury, so let’s give him a chance once he returns to step up.

We all know he can be an elite cornerback; we just need to see it in the back half of 2022.
