Cleveland Browns mock draft at Week 12: Defensive tackle priority No. 1
By Randy Gurzi
Round 5: Kenny Logan Jr., S, Kansas
It might feel like overkill to again focus on the secondary but the Browns need at least one safety now — and could lose Ronnie Harrison and might have to have a real conversation about John Johnson III. That’s why they add Kenny Logan, Jr. from Kansas with their second pick in Round 5.
Logan isn’t high on the radar but he’s a player who can fly around the field and make big plays. He has 262 tackles in his career with 110 coming in 2021 alone. He’s also picked off five passes while breaking up 12 more. If that’s not enough, Logan also forced four fumbles with two recoveries.
He has the tools to be a contributor and could be another late-round find for Andrew Berry.
Round 6: Austin Stogner, TE, South Carolina
David Njoku has developed into the player we all thought he could be and Harrison Bryant has been a decent No. 2 option. However, the Browns need more depth at the position and it’s not likely they re-sign Bryant when his rookie deal is up.
That’s why they bring in another developmental prospect in Austin Stogner from South Carolina. Stogner, who followed Spencer Rattler from Oklahoma to Columbia, doesn’t get the same attention teammate Jaheim Bell does but he’s a more traditional tight end at 6-foot-6 and 251-pounds.
He won’t light up the scoreboard but he also won’t make a lot of mistakes. That’s what you need in a depth player.
Round 7: Cam Jones, LB, Indiana
Cleveland probably needs to do more to help their linebacker corps but it just doesn’t feel like a priority to Berry. Instead, he’s likely to bring back someone such as Anthony Walker and land another under-the-radar vet for depth.
Still, one rookie does hear his name called as Cam Jones is their final pick in this mock. He might be older than most rookies this regime targets but he fits what they like to do and could be a special teams ace.
