2019 was a season to forget for the Cleveland Browns. That was the year when general manager John Dorsey was set to make his mark on the franchise as he was out to pick his own head coach following a frustrating campaign with Hue Jackson.

With several options out there, Dorsey went with Freddie Kitchens — a move that was praised by fans who fell in love with the interim offensive coordinator who had a great rapport with Baker Mayfield.

Kitchens then brought in Todd Monken to serve as offensive coordinator, after he spent the previous three seasons in the same role with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Monken, just like the majority of the staff, was gone when Kitchens was fired following a disastrous campaign, which he called a “total mess.” Since then, he headed to the collegiate ranks and has spent the past three seasons as OC and quarterback coach for the two-time NCAA champion Georgia Bulldogs.

Now, he could be returning to Tampa Bay as he’s set to interview with them this week.

Ironically, Monken could replace Byron Leftwich with the Bucs three years after Monken replaced him. Following a frustrating campaign, Leftwich, who was recently a head coaching candidate, was let go by head coach Todd Bowles.

Tampa Bay isn’t the only team talking to Monken right now, as he’s also been in contact with another AFC North team in search of a new offensive play-caller.

Former Browns OC could join a divisional rival

Monken, who has been phenomenal with the Bulldogs, has also met with the Baltimore Ravens, who are looking to replace Greg Roman. Like Tampa Bay, the Ravens are trying to erase a frustrating season although their issues were centered around injuries to Lamar Jackson.

Should he return — there’s a contract dispute going on now — Monken would have a former MVP under center to work with. In Tampa, he would have his work cut out for them since it’s expected they’ll be replacing Tom Brady.
