The Cleveland Browns were dominated in their first game of the 2026 season, losing 34-10 to the Jacksonville Jaguars, so there are a lot of questions for the team heading into Week 2. One of those questions is what’s the plan for second-year wide receiver Isaiah Bond.
The second-year wideout played just seven snaps in Week 1, and it largely went under the radar because of all the other stuff that Cleveland already has going on. However, that’s a confusingly low number of snaps for a talented wideout who flashed promise as a rookie, and appeared to take a big step in the right direction this offseason.
Ultimately, it was just one game, and Bond’s low snap count could end up being a one-off situation, but it’s definitely something fans should pay attention to when the team takes the field for Week 2.
Isaiah Bond’s snap count is an under-the-radar storyline for Browns in Week 2
Bond played in 16 games last season as a rookie, and he was in the regular rotation at wideout, playing 49% of Cleveland’s offensive snaps. During those snaps, Bond posted 18 receptions for 338 yards, and really came alive as a deep threat during the second half of the season, as he built an exciting rapport with Shedeur Sanders.
The young wide receiver carried that momentum into the offseason, showing off some clear growth during the offseason program and training camp. Bond had reportedly developed into a more well-rounded receiver, and he seemed poised to be a reliable playmaker for Cleveland’s rebuilt offense. However, that wasn’t the case in Week 1.
Obviously, Bond wasn’t expected to be near the top of the wide receiver room in snaps. The Browns have two rookie wide receivers in KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston who they are prioritizing, and Jerry Jeudy is also still viewed as a top playmaker for the offense. Bond is always going to trail those three in snaps, but no one was expecting that he would get only seven plays.
Additionally, the wide receiver entered concussion protocol after the Browns’ second preseason game, and that led to him missing some valuable practice time leading up to the regular season. It’s possible that Bond’s low snap count in Week 1 is related to the time he missed.
Whatever the reason, Browns fans will be paying attention in Week 2 to see if Bond’s low usage will become a trend, or if he’ll step into a bigger role this season as expected.
