The one player the Cleveland Browns need after the combine
The Cleveland Browns will be in the market for a new wide receiver this offseason. But after the NFL Combine, that player should be Jalin Hyatt.
The Cleveland Browns and GM Andrew Berry have returned to Berea following the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis this past week. There were many great performers and players who improved their draft stock through the process. But one player stood out above the rest that would greatly improve the Browns roster.
That player is Tennessee wide receiver Jalin Hyatt. Hyatt had an excellent season for the Vols in 2022 with 67 receptions for 1,267 yards and 15 touchdowns. And while those numbers jump off the page, his combine numbers are really getting people excited.
Running a 4.4 40-yard dash and 40-inch vertical, Hyatt might have just tested himself into the back end of the first round. But if Hyatt slips into Round 2, the Browns must be ready to grab him. He's exactly the type of player-maker Cleveland needs opposite of the steady Amari Cooper.
With the speed to get over the top of the defense, the vertical to out-leap man coverage, and strong agility skills to maneuver in space, paring Hyatt with a playmaker at quarterback like Deshaun Watson could be an instant recipe for success.
It's imperative this offseason for Cleveland to get weapons to put around Watson. And while David Njoku, Amari Cooper, and Donovan Peoples-Jones are nice pieces, the Browns need one more playmaker to really be explosive.
And while trading for somebody like DeAndre Hopkins would look great on paper, it wouldn't strike fear into opposing defensive coordinators for game planning. The Browns need to draft and cultivate their own playmakers on rookie contracts and let Deshaun Watson grow with them. Jalin Hyatt would be exactly that for Cleveland.
