Time to Meet Beau Bell, Linebacker

AUTHOR: Steve DiMatteo | IN: Browns | COMMENTS: None Yet

At the beginning of April, I wrote a little something about Beau Bell, then a linebacker for UNLV, making a pre-draft visit to the Browns.  He was on Phil Savage’s radar for quite some time, and to make sure he was the Browns’ guy, Savage traded the team’s 122nd overall pick and their fifth-round pick (155th overall) to the Dallas Cowboys for the 104th overall pick.  What the Browns are getting is an inside linebacker prospect, described by Savage as a “powerful tackler.”  He is listed at 6-1, 239 pounds and was named the 2007 Mountain West Conference Defensive Player [...]

Meeting the New Brownies

AUTHOR: Steve DiMatteo | IN: Browns | COMMENTS: None Yet

I’m going to level with you: I did not watch the NFL Draft this weekend.  At all.  In other words, I never saw the picks the Browns were making until after the fact.  I do, however, have a good reason for this.  I spent the weekend at home and was driving back to school on Sunday, so I was actually unable to watch any of the Day Two festivities, although I have never been particularly fond of listening to Mel Kiper, Jr. for two days in a row, so I guess I should refrain from calling them “festivities.”  His mystique [...]

What Will You Be Doing Saturday?

AUTHOR: Steve DiMatteo | IN: Browns | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Let’s say your girlfriend/wife wants to have a nice day with you Saturday – go for a walk, see a movie, go out to dinner, whatever – and she gives you one of those We-never-do-anything-together looks.  Don’t make matters worse; go out with her, because Browns fans will not be missing much when it comes to Saturday.  And the same goes for the ladies that peruse this site as well; if your boyfriend/husband is itching for some time together, grant him that.  What I’m trying to say is, don’t get your hopes up that the Browns are going to be [...]

AUTHOR: Steve DiMatteo | IN: Browns | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

The Fan-Sided network continues to add new members to its expanding, happy family.  We now welcome Who Dat Dish, a New Orleans Saints blog.  The lead blogger over there is Dashmir Keca, and he is looking to offer NFL fans a unique perspective on the Saints, a team looking to rebound after a disappointing 2007 season.  Either way, it’s going to be a great blog, so be sure to check it out.

My Apologies

AUTHOR: Steve DiMatteo | IN: Browns | COMMENTS: None Yet

Unfortunately, in the past few weeks, I have not been as active as I would have liked to be on here.  But fear not, because this is by no means a dead blog.  I only have aspirations of going up, up, and away.  Maybe we can all frolic together in the clouds…or not.  With the draft next weekend and some things behind me personally, I can now once again commit myself fully to this wonderful endeavor.  Thanks for sticking with me.

Is the Cleveland Clinic Trying to Kill Browns Players?

AUTHOR: Steve DiMatteo | IN: Browns | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Yet another staph infection has found its way onto the Browns roster.  This time, it has been revealed that wide receiver Joe Jurevicius suffered a staph infection, stemming from the minor knee surgery he had in January.  About two weeks after the surgery, he began experiencing symptoms while on a trip out west, so it is unknown just how he could have contracted the infection, or so they say.  The infection is not as serious as the one that LeCharles Bentley suffered, which was potentially limb- and life-threatening and required surgery.  In fact, Bentley is still recovering from that particular [...]

Browns Draft By the Numbers

AUTHOR: Steve DiMatteo | IN: Browns | COMMENTS: None Yet

John over at Cat Crave has compiled a great, comprehensive breakdown of every NFL team’s recent years in the Draft.  Now, this database only covers the first two rounds of the draft between 2003 and 2007.  Nevertheless, it definitely does not make the Browns look too shabby at all.  In fact, those first two rounds since 2003 have been pretty good to Cleveland.  Here is what John came up with:
(82%) – this is the percentage of players still with the team
Record: 29-51, No Playoff Appearances
Total Draft Picks: 11
Still With Team: 9   Starting for Team: 8
With Another Team: 2    Starting [...]

A Quick Look at LB Beau Bell

AUTHOR: Steve DiMatteo | IN: Browns | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Two players made pre-draft visits to Cleveland on Friday – inside linebackers Jared Mayo of Tennessee and Beau Bell of UNLV.  Mayo is ranked as high as the second-best inside linebacker in the draft, so unless the Browns move up, he will remain little more than a pipe dream.  However, Bell is also another strong inside linebacker, and is projected as a possible fourth-rounder.  Here is some extra information on Bell, courtesy of The Plain Dealer:
The 2007 Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Year, Bell led the conference with 126 tackles and five forced fumbles. He also had [...]
