The Cleveland Browns traded for New England Patriots linebacker Jamie Collins back in 2016. Now, reports are circulating that the Pats may want him back.

In need of a playmaker on defense, the Cleveland Browns landed linebacker Jamie Collins in 2016. They picked him up from the New England Patriots in exchange for a third-round pick. Collins was then given a contract extension in the offseason.

That signing was huge for them as the Browns had been struggling to keep talented players. Persuading Collins to stay showed that they could be changing the narrative.

Unfortunately, Collins season was cut short in 2017 due to a torn MCL. He wound up playing just six games that season and had 31 tackles. Collins then became an afterthought with so many additions this offseason, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been playing well. Collins has 66 tackles, two sacks and an interception in the first eight games.

More from Browns Rumors

Now with the trade deadline approaching, there are rumors that the Patriots could be interested in getting Collins back. Currently, the defending AFC champions are struggling with their front seven and believe Collins could be a help to them.

There’s no word from the Browns as to whether or not they would be interested in trading Collins, but they have been listening to, and making offers all season long.

Considering the depth issues the Browns have had at linebacker, it would seem New England would have to blow them away with an offer in order to pry Collins from them. Either that, or they would have to believe his four-year $50 million deal is too much and therefore be willing to make a move for salary cap reasons.
