The Daily Dawg Tags bring you all the Cleveland Browns news you need to know, including some of the players already liking the idea of Mike McCarthy

The rumor mill will be going crazy up until the Cleveland Browns get their new coach. And once one they were connected to became available this past weekend, we knew the rumors would really heat up.

That coach was none other than Mike McCarthy, the former Super Bowl winner who has spent his entire head coaching career with the Green Bay Packers. During that stint, he worked with center J.C. Tretter, who seems to be fine with the rumors that he could end up working with his old boss again.

Not only does he seem to like the idea for himself, but Tretter says that McCarthy and quarterback Baker Mayfield would get along well. He also pointed to the way the Packers play caller helped Aaron Rodgers along the way in his impressive career.

Cleveland Browns News

Former Packers, current Browns center says Mike McCarthy and Baker Mayfield would ‘do great’ together — Sean Wagner-McGough, CBS Sports

"Perhaps JC Tretter is willing to serve as the matchmaker. Tretter played under McCarthy in Green Bay from 2013-16. He’s been the Browns’ starting center since the beginning of last season. And according to Tretter, McCarthy and Mayfield would pair nicely together."

If Tretter is trying to help his old coach land a new job, he’s going about it the right way. Whether or not McCarthy, or any other candidate for that matter, land the job will depend on how they will be able to work with Baker Mayfield. He’s a legit superstar in the making and they need someone who can get the most out of him.

Health issues have caused Urban Meyer to step down from his job at Ohio State, but Dan Justik looks at whether he could have been an option with the Browns if he wasn’t dealing with those problems.

Keeping an eye toward the future, we have a Cleveland Browns 7-round mock draft where they try and address their few remaining holes. John Dorsey has done a great job building this roster in just one offseason, it’s exciting to predict what he will do next.

Baker Mayfield’s ‘genuine’ leadership a constant in the good times, moments of adversity — Jimmy Watkins

"But Baker Mayfield made sure Callaway understood that play didn’t decide anything. As Callaway stood up to jog back to the sideline, Mayfield ran toward him, praised Callaway’s catch-and-run leading up to the fumble, and told Callaway to be ready for the next play. That was it —no mention of the fumble."

dark. Next. Studs and duds from Week 13 loss to Houston

Watkins tells how Baker Mayfield lifted up Antonio Callaway after a bad fumble in their loss to Houston. That kind of leadership isn’t often found in rookie quarterbacks. Cleveland has a good one here.
