Baker Mayfield will make the pro-bowl in 2020

There’s no doubt that Mayfield had a regression in year two, however, much of the blame should not go on him. For one, Mayfield had no time in the pocket, he was constantly harassed by defensive ends and although he was sacked 40 times, his athleticism avoided 10-plus additional sacks that easily could have happened.

Another huge issue last season was trying to force the ball to Odell Beckham. Yes, he’s a star and can make the circus catch, but far too often our receivers were all running streaks on second and six, which put the offense in horrible third-down situations.

Usually, a top running back is a quarterback’s biggest friend, which Mayfield certainly has in Nick Chubb. But for whatever reason, play calling did not complement the two in 2019. Players were outspoken about the dysfunction of the offense saying there wasn’t even a game plan after the first 15 scripted plays.

All that changes in 2020 with Stefanski calling the plays. Stefanski has proven his system is effective and he has made the playoffs three of the last five seasons. Mayfield won’t throw for 5,000 yards in this system, but he will have a high completion percentage and make big plays off play-action. Not to mention, with an upgraded offensive line, Mayfield stands a chance when the Browns are forced into throwing situations.

The Brown’s won’t be Super Bowl contenders next season, but under Stefanski look for the Browns to compete in every game and make a run at the playoffs. With a new system look for Mayfield have a completion percentage near 65 percent with 4,000 plus yards and 25 touchdowns. These stats are not off the chart, but a nine or 10-win season will earn Mayfield a trip to the pro-bowl.
