If the Cleveland Browns traded back from No. 26, who could they still land?

The NFL Draft can be the best and worst time of the year for football fans. There are often hours between picks for their favorite teams and then there are even times when the franchise decides to punt on their kick and trade back.

For the Cleveland Browns, this could be a real option in 2021 — and it might not be easy for the Dawg Pound to sit through. Currently, Cleveland owns the No. 26 pick in the draft and that’s the area where teams with early second-round picks start to try and move back into the opening round.

While it wouldn’t be easy to wait all night only to see Cleveland take no players in Round 1, adding extra picks could be a smart move for the future. And as long as they don’t drop down beyond the top-10 picks in the second round, there could still be some players capable of starting day one in the NFL.

Here, we look at three such players who could be targets if the Browns trade back in the NFL Draft.

3. Greg Newsome, CB, Northwestern

With Terrance Mitchell and Kevin Johnson set for free agency — and Greedy Williams being surrounded by questions due to a nerve problem in his shoulder — Cleveland needs to add defensive backs. They could go the free agency route but they’re also likely to make a move in the draft.

One option for them, especially if they drop down a few picks, is Northwestern’s Greg Newsome. Listed at 6-foot-1 and 190-pounds, Newsome has already attracted the team’s attention as the Browns reportedly already met with him virtually.

This could be them just kicking the tires, or they might really see Newsome as a fit in their secondary. If so, they might have less heartburn about adding extra picks knowing he should be there for the taking early in the second.
