Team that should trade for Baker Mayfield No. 2: Houston Texans

It feels like the Houston Texans are already trying to position themselves for a 2023 quarterback in the NFL draft, where there are a few guys expected to have a ton of demand. The team acts like Davis Mills is the guy, but if they want to remain competitive, it would make a ton of sense to bring in Mayfield for a year.

First, it would take next to nothing to get him.

The best-case scenario would be that he plays amazing, and you end up extending him and don’t need a first-round pick for a quarterback in 2023. With so many picks in their arsenal, they could rebuild quickly.

The worst-case being is he is bad once again and after a year you let him go. You only gave up a late-round pick, but at least you showed your fans that you were trying to win. Sometimes it becomes a little too obvious when teams are competing for the number one pick the following year.

With a complete rebuild underway, the Texans have plenty of money to bring in Mayfield. Let’s not forget, that he is a local Texas guy and would likely be thrilled to join the organization. He may not be a long-term solution, but it would be worth them giving him a shot in the short term.
