There was some smoke, but not any real fire. The Cleveland Browns stayed relatively quiet throughout the first day of what has been commonly known as the ‘legal tampering period’ in the NFL.

With free agency set to start on March 13, teams were permitted to begin negotiations on Monday – but for some reason, no contracts can actually be signed. No one quite understands what the deal with that is, but at least we get some deals agreed to. Well, most teams do anyway.

After the first day of negotiations was in the book, the Browns had no agreements in place with any free agents. They did, however, show interest in a few players who could improve their roster.

Cleveland Browns eyeing C.J. Mosley in free agency

While it’s true the Browns were really quiet on the first day in which contracts could be agreed upon, they were apparently kicking names around behind the scenes. One potential target they are considering is linebacker C.J. Mosley, who would improve their linebacking corps dramatically.

One player on this list was Jesse James, who came to terms with the Detroit Lions. However, Brown and a couple of other names could still be in play for Cleveland.

The Browns are also looking at Tyrell Williams in addition to C.J. Mosley, but neither player will come cheap. However, adding both would surely make them bigger favorites in the AFC North next season.
